Advanced Bacteria-Binding Ribbon Gauze for Wound Care
The Cutimed Sorbact Ribbon Gauze is a sterile hydrophobic, bacteria- and fungi-binding ribbon dressing designed for managing a wide range of wounds, especially cavity wounds, fistulas, and other deep or tunnelled wounds. It uses Sorbact® Technology to physically bind microbes and help reduce wound bioburden without relying on chemical antimicrobials, supporting the body’s natural healing process.
Key Features & Benefits
-
Hydrophobic Binding Technology — DACC-coated Sorbact surface irreversibly binds bacteria and fungi, reducing bioburden without promoting antimicrobial resistance.
-
Safe Microbe Removal — When the dressing is removed, it lifts off microbes with it, supporting a cleaner wound bed.
-
Suitable for Infected, Colonised & Exuding Wounds — Effective in clean, contaminated, colonised, or infected wounds.
-
Ribbon Format for Cavity Wounds — Ideal as a wound filler for cavities, tunnels, and irregular wound shapes.
-
Allows Passage of Exudate — Functions as a contact layer that lets exudate pass into a secondary absorbent dressing.
-
Customisable & Easy to Remove — Can be cut to size and always leave an external tail for easier retrieval.
-
Extended Wear Time — Depending on exudate levels and clinical assessment, it can remain in place for up to 7 days.
Intended Use & Indications
-
Partial- to full-thickness wounds, including infected or colonised wounds
-
Surgical wounds, traumatic wounds, diabetic foot ulcers, pressure ulcers, venous or arterial ulcers
-
Cavity wounds, tunnels, and fistulas
-
Suitable for use under compression therapy
-
Can also be used in skin folds prone to fungal colonisation
How to Use
-
Prepare the wound and surrounding skin according to clinical protocols.
-
Cut the ribbon to the required length using aseptic technique.
-
Ensure direct contact between the Sorbact surface and the wound bed.
-
For cavities or tunnels, loosely fill and leave a tail outside for easier removal.
-
Cover with a suitable secondary absorbent dressing.
-
Change as required based on exudate level or clinical guidance (up to 7 days).
Removal Tip: If the dressing adheres to the wound bed, moisten with sterile saline before removing to minimise trauma.
Important Considerations
-
Do not use in conjunction with oily creams, ointments, or greasy products in the wound bed, as they can impair the dressing’s ability to bind microbes.
-
Avoid placing directly on exposed bone, tendon, blood vessels, organs, or nerves.
-
Single-use only — do not reuse or re-sterilise.
-
Seek clinical review if the wound deteriorates, shows signs of systemic infection, or does not improve.
