Important Changes to the NDIA product classification
The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) has introduced updates that may affect how you use your NDIS funds. These changes are in place to ensure that NDIS funding is used to provide the best support possible.
There are now three key lists to guide how NDIS funds can be spent:
-
1. Supports that are NDIS supports.
You can use NDIS funding only for services, items, and equipment that are on this list. These items are specifically chosen to help you reach your NDIS goals.
-
2. Supports that are not NDIS supports.
Some items are now clearly marked as not allowed under NDIS funding. This list explains what can’t be purchased using NDIS funds.
-
3. Replacement supports list.
In some specific cases, items not on the approved list can be funded as replacements. Replacement supports are items you’d like to use instead of something in your current NDIS plan, but they require written approval and not all supports can be replaced.
What This Means for Participants
These changes to the NDIA are intended to ensure that NDIS funds are used efficiently for participant needs. Check the lists to see if they impact your current or future purchases.
Participants with plan-managed funding may notice changes in what their plan manager can process. Contact your plan manager to confirm what’s included in your plan. If your funding is self-managed or agency-managed (including PACE), it’s best to speak with your Support Coordinator or Local Area Coordinator (LAC) for plan details.
