5 Things Men Should Know When it Comes to Health This Movember...

We know that life often means putting the needs of the people you love first. Whether you’re a husband, father, son, or friend, looking after others is a rewarding, yet sometimes demanding, role.

To continue being the strong support system others rely on, you need to look after the person in the mirror, too. This Movember, we’re shifting the focus back to you.

Here is some great advice from the team at Movember

1. Spend time with people who make you feel good.

Life can throw us curveballs. Yet even when things seem tough, there’s a lot we can do to look after ourselves and others.

Stay connected. Your mates are important and spending time with them is good for you. Catch up regularly, check in and make time.

2. Talk, more

Men sometimes aren’t comfortable reaching out and opening up about life’s challenges - or they think they’ll be burdening their friends if they do.

You don’t need to be an expert and you don’t have to be the sole solution, but being there for someone, listening and giving your time can be life-saving.

3. Know the numbers

At 50, talk to your doctor about prostate cancer and whether it’s right for you to have a PSA test. If you are of African or Caribbean descent or have a father or brother with prostate cancer, you should be having this conversation at 45.

Know your numbers, know your risk, talk to your doctor.

4. Know your body

Get to know what’s normal for your testicles. Give them a check regularly and to to the doctor if something doesn’t feel right.

They should be sensitive, but not painful. Look for unusual changes over time.

5. Move, more

Add more activity to your day. Do more of what makes you feel good. Take a walk to the park, use the stairs instead of the lift.

If you are immobile, move however you can. Get out and enjoy the fresh air.
